The team of organisers of the Gerlitzen mountain run and the Gerlitzen mountain walk - Alexander Hofer, Paul Kadlec and Thomas Lutzmayer - discovered their shared passion of running by accident. Together they started with short distances, which soon turned into quarter and half marathons, taking part in events in various European cities.
In constant search of new challenges, the three friends started mountain running themselves and decided to organize their own mountain run. And so, the Gerlitzen mountain running event has been held annually since 2015. The participants are faced with a real challenge of eleven kilometres of running distance and around 1000 meters of altitude, which must be overcome. After starting at the bottom station of the Gerlitzen Kanzelbahn railway, the track leads via the mountain road and forest paths to the finish at 1440 meters above sea level. If you prefer to take a slower approach we are pleased to tell you that there is a separate category for Nordic walkers. At the finishing line a refreshment station awaits you serving drinks and a cake buffet. You then return, via an arranged transport, to the award ceremony which takes place at the valley station of the Gerlitzen Kanzelbahn Railway.
