Sustainable mobility solutions in the Alpe-Adria region

Interreg project Mind the Gap

Austria - Slovenia - SIAT00298

The cross-border Alpe-Adria region (Austrian Carinthia, Gorenjska and Goriška) is affected by traffic congestion, which has a negative impact on the environment and accessibility. Mind the Gap is concerned with finding sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives, especially public transport. When it comes to cross-border connections, travelling by train or bus is time-consuming due to missing or insufficient lines. In addition, the timetables of transport companies in both countries are not harmonised, passengers are often confronted with a lack of integration between the different modes of transport (train, bus) and tickets are not standardised. In some places, the quality of the transport infrastructure, including railway stations and ICT equipment, is also inadequate. The lack of standardised information systems and the difficulty of accessing up-to-date information (timetables, fares, etc.) make it difficult for passengers to plan their journey.

  • Project budget: € 1,214,328.00
  • ERDF co-financing: € 971,462.40
  • Project duration: 01.10.2025 - 30.9.2028
  • Project partners: 6 project partners from Austria and Slovenia

The Villach region - represented by the Centre for Sustainable Destination Development Carinthia (NDK) - is part of the new Interreg project (mainly in work package 3) with the aim of making booking, information and communication about public, cross-border transport services easier and more attractive for locals and guests.
