Lake Faak is a natural gem

Help us preserve its purity

Lake Faak is famed far beyond Carinthia’s borders for its intense turquoise colour. The fact that its water is not just stunning to look at, but of the very highest purity, is evidenced by the Carinthian lake report, which consistently awards Lake Faak with the top classification, well above that of drinking water standard.

NATURAL PURITY AND FRESHNESS

  • Three streams and multiple springs feed into Lake Faak. The main tributary, the Worunitza, carries fine lime crystals from the steep slopes of the Mittagskogel (2,145 m). These reflect the scattered light in the water and create its deep turquoise colour.
  • Every 1.8 years, the water in Lake Faak is completely renewed. This makes it the lake with the highest flow rate and the freshest status of all Carinthia’s lakes.

BEAUTY WORTH PROTECTING

The many tributaries and the location of the lake, however, mean that everything that happens in and around the surrounding nature also directly influences the quality of the water.

To preserve the purity of the lake, the responsible behaviour of all is required. Many local residents and guests holidaying at Lake Faak are already making demonstrable efforts to take care of its nature.

PROTECT YOUR LAKE - You too can do your bit to preserve the purity of Lake Faak:

“I love cycling to the lake after work. When the grassy area slowly empties out and I dip into the warm, turquoise water one last time as the sun sets.”

Soft mobility:
Skip the search for parking spots and make your way to the lake by bus or bike.

“My mama always takes aaaages putting sun cream on me. And then I have to wait forever before I’m allowed in the water.”

Mineral-based sun cream:
Apply a mineral-based (not water-based) sun cream at least 30 minutes before bathing. This protects you and your loved ones and helps keep the lake water clean.

“You never know when you’ll next end up in the lake. That’s why I shower whenever the kids want to go on the pier – just in case.”

Showering before bathing:
Take a shower before you jump into the lake. By doing so, you avoid cooling down too abruptly and prevent dirt and sweat from entering the lake.

"I like to walk my dog along the unspoilt Slow Trail to the peninsula. There is a very small, idyllic lake access there."

Dogs can’t go in the lake:
Your dogs will love the water at Lake Faak too. You can let them drink from the lake, but not swim in it. And make sure you always have a dog poop bag with you to dispose of their faeces.

“For me, the prettiest spot at Lake Faak is the meandering reed bed. I always paddle there by boat. The fish and water birds are almost close enough to touch.”

Don’t feed the waterfowl:
Enjoy watching the birds, but please don’t feed them. Remains of food and bird excrement decrease the water quality and are harmful to animals.

“I come every year for Bike Week. For me, Lake Faak is the most beautiful lake there is, and I want it to stay that way.”

No repairs near the lake:
Whether on two or four wheels: if you’re repairing your vehicle or tinkering around on it, only do so on a secure site well away from the lake.

SHARING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE LAKE

With the campaign “my LAKE.”, we want to call on everyone to help us preserve the unique beauty of Lake Faak. With mindful behaviour, including everything from soft mobility to the proper use of sun cream and avoiding waste, each and every visitor can do their part to help protect this natural gem. The campaign plays with the turquoise blue of the lake, which is reflected in the colours of the left eye of the central theme. The colour symbolises the purity of Lake Faak, which must be protected like a precious treasure.

EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN AND AROUND LAKE FAAK HAS A DIRECT EFFECT ON THE QUALITY OF THE LAKE WATER.
HELP US PRESERVE ITS PURITY.
