Slow Trail - Faaker See
The Turquoise Blue Lake Faak with Views to the Majestic Mittagskogel
Departing from Faak am See or Drobollach, there are two Slow Trail options leading you through a protected area of idyllic nature and landscape around the turquoise-blue Lake Faak. The hiker will be accompanied by a view of the impressive Mittagskogel mountain, with its strikingly flat-topped peak, dominating the beautiful Karawanken mountain range.
Starting the Slow Trail on the small peninsula at the lake outflow in Faak am See, the hiker will reach a cultural attraction in a few minutes. The picturesque church Faak, which can be reached with a short ascent, is part of the annual 10-church pilgrimage of the parishes St Stefan and Latschach. You can admire the St Christopher fresco on the south side from the vantage point of a beautiful linden tree. The trail continues along well-developed paths through natural forests, eventually reaching the peninsula. From there you will have a magical view across the turquoise Lake Faak and its backdrop, the majestic Mittagskogel mountain.
Alternatively, you can continue the Slow Trail in the direction of Drobollach, where you will be rewarded with a visit to the Friedenskappelle Drobollach (peace chapel) and a stunning view. The special scenic location of the chapel was taken into consideration in its redevelopment in 1996. The images represent the community spirit of cultures despite their differences. On both Slow Trail options, you can return on the same path to your starting point.
