Churches in Villach

This old town walk leads past the most beautiful churches in the Draustadt Villach.

An insider tip a little outside the city is the St.Johanner Kircherl, which lies on a hill above the district Völkendorf in Villach. From there you also have a beautiful view of the Draustadt.

The start of this round tour is the parish church of St. Jakob with its large church tower, which can also be climbed. Continue north across the main square with its shops and Cafe´s. After crossing the Draubücke (stop briefly in the middle of the bridge to enjoy the great view of the Mittagskogel and the Türkenkopf in the east) you reach the Nikolaikirche with its beautiful forecourt. From the Nikolaikirche it goes over the Nikolaigasse past the red Congress Center. After this you turn right and cross the pedestrian bridge back to the south side of the Drau. Follow the river eastwards until you reach the Ossiacher Zeile and the Heiligenkreuzkirche. Via Lduwig-Walter-Straße and Pestalozzi Straße you reach the last church on the circular path, the Evangelical Church of Villach with the town park behind it. From there you follow the 10th October street until you come back to the main square of Villach.

Villach is easily accessible by post buses and ÖBB trains.
