Starting in Velden this ride is a consistent light climb through the „Sonnental“ (Sunny Valley) to Damtschach and its famous castle, where you can take a break. The path then goes towards “Wernberg,” where you start biking on small side-streets past Landskron, St. Ruprecht and Treffen all the way to the Ossiacher See (Lake Ossiach)- where you have a great view of the Landskrone Castle ruins. You get on a bike path towards Ossiach beginning on the southern shore of the Ossiacher See, the whole time enjoying a glorious view of the lake and the Gerlitzen Alps. This is the sunniest mountain range in Carinthia, 1911 meters above sea-level, and is also a beloved destination for day-trips and hikes. It is recommended to take a break in Ossiach to visit the Ossiach Abbey (Stift Ossiach) and to eat at a good restaurant. Then you get back on some quiet roads and ride through Höfling, Oberglan, Nussweg, Knasweg and Stallhofen back to “Pörtschach am Wörthersee.” Small villages, hills and little-used roads dominate the landscape which is very different from the nearby lake regions. From Pörtschach you get onto the Wörthersee bike path and ride back to Velden.
