Hiking along Lake Ossiach - trough the Natural Habitat 'Bleistätter Moor'

This hike is a part of the "Carinthia Water Kingdom" project and leads to a beautiful arch on Lake Ossiach.

Parts of this hike are also parts of the long distance Alpe-Adria-Trail... This leads from Grossglockner to the ocean. The next phase goes from Ossiach through the gorge of the Ossiacher Tauern. From there it leads to the beautiful Wörthersee!

Good shoes and possibly a nice pair of binoculars to observe the wildlife in Bleistätter swamp.

You start at Gasthof Laggner/Steindorf and walk over the railway crossing and along Seestrasse until Gasthof zur Dorfschenke. Take a left onto Dorfstrasse and follow it until the Sonnenweg intersection. Here you walk upwards past “Reiterhof Albel” and follow the Seeblick (lakeview) path until it intersects with hiking trail number 2, which you follow to the east. Walking away from Steindorf, you pass an intersection with trail number 41 where you have the chance to take a detour to the Steindorf waterfalls (about a twenty minute ascent). If you go back to trail number 2, it takes you into the forest in the opposite direction of Nordic-Walking-Routes number 2 and 3, above the reservoir in the direction of the village. You follow Dorfstrasse to the west until you reach Mattuschka gardens. South of the gardens you will find a sound barrier with a passageway. After crossing the highway and the railway crossing you follow the bike path (R2) along the Bleistätter swamp to the east. After passing the Teuffenbach Arboretum the tour crosses the Bleistätter swamp and the Tiebel Bridge. You then walk further along the bike path until you reach Bleistätter Moorstrasse. You cut across this road and follow the dirt road until it intersects with trail number 1. In order to get back to the starting point you take a right and follow the causeway (Dammweg).
