Village Walk Bodensdorf

This walk leads you through the village of Bodensdorf and helps you to get to know to this small, picturesque village.

This walk starts at tourist information office Bodensdorf and leads in a north-westerly direction along the 10. Oktober Straße. After a few minutes you will pass on the left hand the well-known parish church of St. Josef of Bodensdorf, which was built in 1929.

At the fire station, the 10. Oktober Straße branches off to the right and goes over into St. Josefstraße. This still leads slightly to the church of Saint Joseph. The church, which was first mentioned between 1656 and 1667, was the parish church of Bodensdorf until the construction of the new church in 1929. Today it is a well-known pilgrimage church.

At the end of the St. Josefstraße you have to cross the toll road Gerlitzen Alpenstraße. The Gerlitzen Alpe is famous for its many hiking trails. Follow the road to the right and then turn right into the Tschöraner Weg, which will continue in the Burgweg. After a few meters you will reach the Protestant church Tschöran, which was erected in 1803. Now follow the Burgweg until you reach the starting point of the walk to the Peterlewand. At the time of the Counter-Reformation, the Peterlewand was a strategically important point and is also described in the book of Gustav Renker "The People Without Home". In addition to the impressive view of the Bleistätter, the Peterlewand also offers numerous possibilities for beginners and advanced skiers for sports climbers and climbers. At the end of the route, a culinary stop at the restaurant Urbani is recommended. Seasonal as well as traditional dishes guarantee that there is something for every taste. Cross the B94 Ossiacher See road and, after crossing the railway, walk to the St. Urban path, which is also part of the R2 cycle path, which leads around the lake. The lakeside promenade leads along the lakeside to the "Park am See", a public area with numerous play equipment, cafe, miniature golf course and numerous seating possibilities with a dreamlike view of lake Ossiacher See. The Ossiacher See is with 10,79 km² and a max. depth of 52.6 m the third largest lake in Carinthia. There are about 21 species of fish in the water. The main fish in Lake Ossiach is the bream, which accounts for about 30% of the total stock.

The Ossiach Abbey is a former Benedictine monastery on the southern bank of Lake Ossiach. Little is known about the origins of the monastery, since no documents were handed down. According to a legend since 1521, the Polish king Boleslaus is said to have spent his last years as a "dull penitent" in the monastery and was buried on the north side of the monastery church. During a trip to Ossiach, the visit of the Stiftskirche shall not be missed.

In the historical walls is now also the CMA – the Carinthian Music Acadamy. The CMA sees itself as a meeting place for all, who either make music themselves or simply like to listen to it. One of the musical highlights of the region is the music festival “Carinthischer Sommer”. The Ossiacher See Schifffahrt offers its guests not only various boat trips but also theme trips. Follow the path to and the cycle path R2 until you get to the Helmut Wobisch Weg. On the right hand is the small train station of Bodensdorf. After a few minutes you will reach the federal road again. Follow the road in an easterly direction and you will reach the tourist information office Bodensdorf.
