Natural idyll and pilgrimage destination on the Drau

Vacation in Weißenstein

Weißenstein is located in the picturesque Lower Drau Valley, just a 20-minute drive from Villach. The name of the municipality comes from a striking, light-colored rock face that towers impressively above the village. As a stop on the Way of St. James (Jakobsweg), pilgrims take a break in Weißenstein.

The unspoiled nature is best explored on foot or by bike - on the numerous well-developed hiking and cycling trails in the region. The family-friendly natural swimming pool in Puch offers welcome refreshment and a relaxing break.

Do not miss

  • Experience the Drau cycle path: This fantastic cycle path runs for 520 kilometers along the Drau and can be completed in stages. The third section leads through Weißenstein.
  • Puch pedestrian and cycle bridge: The imposing, barrier-free bridge is considered an architectural masterpiece - be sure to pause for a moment as you cross and enjoy the magnificent view.
  • On the Drau ferry: Experience nature up close on a crossing with the Drau ferry, which connects Weißenstein and Paternion between May and September.

Pilgrimage in the Villach - Faaker See - Ossiacher See region

Like scarcely any other region, the landscape around Villach, lake Faaker See and lake Ossiacher See presents itself as a wonderful oasis, offering not only the body but also the soul the necessary nourishment. Four popular pilgrimage routes - the Way of the Book, the Marian Pilgrimage Route, the Way of St. James and the Hemma Pilgrimage Route lead through our region. In addition, there are many other spiritual hiking trails in the middle of the lake landscape with plenty of Alpine-Adriatic flair and especially many hours of sunshine.
