Advent in Villach

Advent magic in the region

We will put old and young alike in the mood for Christmas.

It is the fascination of the brilliant light that illuminates children's eyes. It is the romantic atmosphere of the decorated squares that draws one into the Villach old town. And it is also the many atmospheric events that make Advent in the region so unique.

Quite honestly, Villach does not believe in hibernation. Because in the cold season, the second-largest town in Carinthia enchants its guests with a glitter of lights. Winter in Villach means: ice skating in front of the Villach town hall, warming one's hands around a cup of mulled wine, lingering in cafes or simply watching icicles grow. During the Advent period, the historical old town transforms into a sensual Christmas world. Every year.

Villach – the illuminated town!
the Advent calendar in the magnificently decorated Drau town is filled with around 50 events for the whole family. Do some rounds on the ice skating rink under the canopy of lights, admire the illuminated Stadtpfarr church tower that has been transformed into an imposing candle, post a Christmas wish letter directly at the Christmas post office after a long walk through the charming Advent market. And part of the action once again this year - the Drau ship invites you to go on a fabulous journey of light. Warm up in the new cosy stalls on the main square and treat yourself to cuisine with your loved ones.

Villach Advent
Advent on the Drau ship: the MS Landskron is now ready for the winter and enchants guests at weekends on a romantic illuminated cruise with a view of the decorated old town. The pre-Christmas period and the early fall of darkness are perfect for enjoying Villach, the illuminated town, in these wonderful weeks before the most beautiful festive period in the year. It cannot be overlooked: the Villach old town is cloaked in its most beautiful festive attire. The tower of the Stadtpfarrkirche St. Jakob has been transformed symbolically into a beautiful giant candle visible from afar.
