Finkenstein castle ruins

An enjoyable concert in a dream setting

The Finkenstein castle ruins rise majestically on Kanzianiberg above Faaker See and are a popular trip destination for all ages, affording an imposing view from up there.
Finkenstein Castle was built in the 12th century and offered a good overview over the surroundings, allowing enemies to be spotted quickly.
The lineage of the Finkensteins was first documented in the year 1142. In 1335, the castle fell into the hands of the Habsburgs and has not been inhabited since the 17th century. Instead, every summer from the beginning of June to the end of August, various cultural events are held here. The old, preserved walls play one of the leading roles along with the performers - with a very special atmosphere created by the former grandiose building. Up to 1000 people can be seated in the beautiful arena to listen to one of the many concerts by performers such as Wolfgang Ambros, Rainhard Fendrich or Konstantin Wecker. Guided tours of the castle, like at some other sites in Austria, are unfortunately no longer possible at the Burgarena.
