Alpengarten Dobratsch

Intermediate hiking trail up to the alpine garden and the skywalk near parking area 6. Follow the way through the nature reserve "Schütt" and enjoy magnificent views.

If you are not afraid of hights, then walk on to the Skywalk and admire a breathtaking view. The Skywalk is a 7m long metal platform , from which one has a magnificent view over the "Red Wall" and can observe rare species of birds .

From mid- August to early September over 7,000 raptors fly over the Dobratsch towards south. Passive flyer as the honey buzzard , but also hawks , snakes and imperial eagles use thermal winds.

Trekking shoes, backpack , functional underwear, rainwear, hiking sticks , food and drinks, maps , first aid and mobile phone.

Start this moderate hike at the leisure time park in Arnoldstein. Cross the Nepomuk bridge and and continue to Othmar hut at 643 meter altitude. The path leads through the "Schütt" forest. With its bizarre rock formations and boulders , mountain thickets , black rests , the "Schütt" is a unique refuge for a variety of animal and plant species . Over the "Kranzwand" and the "Wabenriegel" it is only a short way towards west. Then we reach our goal- the Alpine Garden and the Skywalk. Follow the same way back or use the nature park bus.

Take the bus from Villach main station to Arnoldstein.

All tours on the Dobratsch are basically alpine hiking tours with specific alpine dangers ( fall of temperature, disorientation due to fog, thunderstorms etc.) Be careful!
