From the city center, you walk downstream along the Drau, following the Drau bike path (Drauradweg) until reaching the Bridge of Peace (Friedensbrücke). There is a paved bike path along both sides of the river. On the north shore, the hike goes past the Villach Technology Park, to Silver Lake (Silbersee), until Gottestal. Here you get off the bike path and continue walking north. You continue through the village of Gottestal and follow Gottestaler Strasse until you get to Wernberg Monastery- you can buy fresh and healthy produce from local farms at stands on the monastery square.
