When even Reinhold Messner, the most famous mountaineer in the world, describes the circumnavigation of a fascinating mountain as probably the strongest hiking experience, we should calmly follow his recommendation. 

The short long-distance trail in southern Austria offers everything that a mountain circumnavigation promises in this sense. The five stages lead through times of former burial mounds, mining tunnels and driers, connect places of famous painting art and former monastic life, pass through bizarre mountain landslide landscapes, and follow old Roman roads. At the intersection of three cultures, the Dobratsch Route gains an unprecedented forward-looking character with its cross-border aspect.
