Autumn in the Villach holiday region

Mountain railroads and excursion destinations
The Gerlitzen Alpe mountain railways will take you up to the summit in comfort this autumn too. The regular summer season runs from 30 May to 27 September 2026. After that, the Kanzelbahn will operate at weekends on 3–4, 10–11 and 17–18 October, running from Annenheim on Lake Ossiach to Kanzelhöhe (1,440 m).
From 23 October up to and including 1 November 2026, daily services are scheduled on the Kanzelbahn I and Kanzelbahn II up to the Gerlitzen summit at 1,911 metres.
The mountain railways at the Dreiländereck will be open daily from 4 June to 13 September 2026 , from 9 am to 5 pm.
On the weekends of 19–20 September and 26–27 September 2026, the cable car will operate from 9 am to 4 pm on each occasion.
Changes may occur due to weather conditions.
Other attractions such as the Adler Arena at Burg Landskron, Abenteuer Affenberg, the Ossiacher See boat trips and much more remain open throughout the autumn and offer unforgettable experiences for young and old alike. Sunrise for late risers
Want to sleep in and still experience a magical sunrise on the mountain? This can be combined very well in the fall - late sunrises and hideaways near the summit make it possible from mid-September to October 27 (changeover to winter time).
Sunrise time: around 6.40 am in mid-September and around 7.30 am at the end of October (before the time changeover)

Experience CARD Programme Autumn
With our Erlebnis CARD guest card, many experiences are available at significantly reduced prices or even free of charge. The autumn programme offers plenty of variety – with guided tours, moments of indulgence, exercise and special insights into the region.
The varied weekly programme starts on 7 September . New additions include yoga in the mountains, the Slow Food walk in Arriach and a guided tour of the Sternberg vineyard. There are also walks through the old town, cycle bus services, the lemon workshop and the guided Hypershell walk.

Enjoy Carinthian cuisine
Autumn in the Villach – Faaker See – Ossiacher See region is all about local flavours, indulgence and special encounters.
On a guided tour of the Sternberg Winery on Tuesday, you’ll gain fascinating insights into Carinthian viticulture and sample a selection of wines. In Arriach, the Slow Food walk on Thursday combines exercise with regional delights and the Slow Food philosophy in action. And on Saturday, the lemon workshop with tasting is all about the fascinating variety of citrus fruits at Faaker See.
Being active and discovering new things
Even beyond the culinary scene, the Erlebnis CARD offers a variety of ways to experience the region this autumn. Find peace and renewed energy at ‘Yoga in the Mountains’ on Thursday, or try out the guided Hypershell hike on Sunday to see what it’s like to hike with a modern exoskeleton.
If you’d like to explore the region on two wheels, make use of the various cycle bus services. On a walk through Villach’s old town, you’ll also get to know the history and unique features of this town on the Drau river better.
