start live-chatIn addition to the chargeable public bathing complexes, in the Villach - Faaker See - Ossiacher See region we also offer some possibilities for you to take a quick, refreshing dip free of charge. There are free of charge lake access points on nearly every lake, allowing you to take a short, refreshing plunge into the water without having to pay.
The largest free lake access on Lake Ossiach is offered by the new "Seebad Bodensdorf" (Fischerweg 8). There is an adventure children's playground and a lakeside terrace with an appealing selection of food and drinks. Paid parking is available directly in front of the entrance at the lakeside bath (day ticket € 6.00).
In Steindorf there is an out-of-the-way lake access point where you can also park your car, next to the Ossiacher See Halle. You walk down a gravel path alongside the Nagele campsite, which brings you up to the water’s edge. Wooden benches invite you to stay for a while and enjoy the view.
If you are wanting a quick dip in the water to cool off, then head for the “baby beach” in Bodensdorf. If you are heading away from Villach along the north side of the lake on the R2 "Ossiacher See Radweg” cycle path, immediately after you leave Bodensdorf you will see an electrical substation on the right. If you turn off to the right here and follow the path for about 130 metres, you will pass between two well-kept hedges and arrive at the lake’s edge where you can enter the water.
At Ossiacher See, the bikebeach St. Andrä can be used free of charge as well. Two jetties and a beach area laid with round gravel provide you with a perfect bathing opportunity. If you are not arriving at the Ossiacher See on your bike but by car, you can park in an area to the south of the road for EUR 2.40 per day.
Three places to cool off in the water free of charge:
The Siedler beach on the Faaker See is one of the most beautiful spots in Carinthia and can be found close by the Arneitz campsite. There is no charge for setting up your sun-lounger here.
There is a free of charge lake access point, which can be reached by bike or on foot, at the end of the peninsula (on the western side of the lake behind the sports hostel).
At the Faaker See Panorama Beach, bathers can enjoy all the amenities of a beach complex - a beautifully-maintained bathing area and large sun lawn, modern restaurant, child-friendly access to the lake and a play area for the little ones - without having to pay an entrance fee.
The free access point is on the north side of lake on the hiking trail that leads around the Afritzer See, and can be reached from the car park on the main road via a dirt track along the banks of the lake.
The Aichwaldsee is a small, idyllically situated lake to the south of the Faaker See. It can be reached going south along the Rosentalstraße, turning off at the 12 km point and following the road for a further 400 m. There are multiple parking spaces right next to the path. This leads to a beach complex with a café-restaurant and toilet facilities (entrance fee is payable). There is a free access point here.
