Lake Aichwald, south of the City of Villach in the municipality Finkenstein, is a true natural swimming lake. It is among the last remaining lakes of Carinthia with a completely natural unspoilt shoreline. The lake is only 4.5 hectare large and has a natural swimming and sun bathing area with a bathhouse reconstructed in 2014 from native larch wood. This bath house was awarded the Carinthian ‘Holzbaupreis’ for buildings constructed with wood.
Since 2016 the swimming facilities at Lake Aichwald have been managed with great love and community spirit by the culture organisation ‘Kulturgarten Aichwaldsee’ which is made up of accommodation providers and neighbours. The swimming facilities are opened each year from the middle of May for mermaids and aquamen. However, all year round approximately 60 cultural events including art, music and literature events are performed here. The on-site café ‘Café am See’ is open for swimmers as well as hikers and cyclists.
