This walk starts at the tourist information office Faak am See. At the parking lot, turn left into the Bahnhofweg.Here you will find the Minigolf Faak am See, which is open all day from 12:00 to 21:00 (in June and in July and August). Cross the railway and go to the Blumenstraße. On the right hand side there is Austria's largest citrus garden. Here, 280 different citrus varieties grow from all over the world;
Take the same route back to Bahnhofstraße. Do you hear the noise of the Rotschitza brook ? It is one of the two brooks that supply the Faaker See with frsh water. The main water supply of the lake is the Wourounitza brook. It drains the steep slopes of the Mittagskogel. The inflow leads to the lake in case of flood gravel and finest lime particles. The sludge remains in suspension for a long time and, besides the biogenic decalcification they reflect the sunlight, which is the cause for the characteristic turquoise blue water color of Faakersee.
Along the Bahnhofstraße you can reach the train station of Faak am See and the market square in Dietrichsteinerstraße in a few minutes. In Summer every Thursday from about 17:00 - 22:30 there is a farmers market from May to September (except during the European Bike Week).
The market square is crossed in a western direction and along the the Landesstraße you can reach the public beach of Faak.
At the public beach turn left into Seestraße and follow the road in a north-westerly direction to a dam. This dam is crossed over a small bridge and you reach the beginning of a stream. This is also the starting point for an exclusive holiday on the island in the lake. To get there you need to go on a boat trip.
After a few minutes along the Bachstraße you will reach a free meadow with impressive views of the Karawanken and the Mittagskogel. The Mittagskogel (in Slovenian also Kepa) is also 2,145 m one of the highest elevations in the Karawanken. The Karawanken mountain range also forms the natural border with neighboring Slovenia. The border crosses the summit of the Mittagskogel.
At the crossroads of the Bachstraße - Fliederweg you reach the children's playground Faak am See. Here, the children can play. Continue along Bachstraße-Kirchengass. Here is a short cooling in the freely accessible and family-friendly bathing area which also gives access to the lake.
Slightly ascending, we continue along the church path to the church of St. George. The church is a branch church of the parish of Latschach. The souther wall is decorated with a Christophorus fresco from the first half of the 16th century.
Turn left at the main road and follow the way back to the tourist information office.
