Powder and piste fun are back in season. A glance up reveals: Mother Hulda is doing her job really well, having cloaked the whole mountain massif in a wintery new snowy dress. Gerlitzen Alpe is considered THE top family ski resort in Carinthia and is the only certified ski centre for families with children, as well as beginners.

At the Dreiländereck where Austria, Italy and Slovenia meet, 15 kilometres of varied pistes, a 3-seater chairlift and 6 T-bar and platter lifts await guests – including a boundless panorama. For beginners and children, there is a practice lift in the valley area as well as the "Happy Ski School".

Winter adventures at Dreiländereck

At the Dreiländereck, winter fun awaits with a spectacular panorama: right next to the mountain station, a panoramic ice rink invites you to go ice skating whilst enjoying a 360° view of the mountains.

Anyone looking to try something new can test exoskeletons at the Hypershell Test Centre and hire them for winter hikes, snowshoe treks or ski tours.

Culinary highlights on the mountain

There are also new culinary delights to discover on the Gerlitzen Alpe this winter (2026/27). Right at the summit, at 1,911 metres, the new HerBerg is opening in the former Gerlitzen Gipfelhaus, whilst the traditional Pöllingerhütte on the summit run is getting a fresh start. Perfect for a delightful break with panoramic mountain views.

The old town of Villach offers a very special atmosphere at Christmas time, when the church tower of the parish church (Stadtpfarrkirche) shines like a lit candle above the rooftops. People meet at the lovely decorated huts, enjoy the culinary delights, the wonderful light decorations and fall into Christmas anticipation with the smell of cookies. While the children have fun on the ice rink at the town hall square (Rathausplatz), the market stands offers a large selection of handmade gifts. Whether on foot or comfortably by car via Villacher Alpenstraße. Once you arrive at the Rosstratte, the last car park before the summit, you are presented with a fantastic postcard mountain panorama. The Dobratsch Nature Park adventure area invites you to go hiking and offers lots of interesting facts at its foot with exciting mining history (including a show mine).
