start live-chatThe recreational mountain by Villach. Here nature itself is still the scenographer and sound artist. On Dobratsch at an altitude of 2167 metres you can find the oldest nature reserve in Carinthia. You reach the top along a 16.5-kilometre-long toll road, Villach Alpenstrasse, one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in Austria, with many great viewing points.
By car you can get as far as Rosstratten at 1732 metres, then continue on foot. Unique walks, all well-signposted, a fascinating exhibition about the local bird world (Aichingerhütte), an interesting geology path with fossils, volcanic and karst rock, Gailtal crystalline and Alpine shell limestone, along with the sensory Alpine Garden with more than 1000 alpine plants wait to be explored.
The whole area of Villacher Alpe has been protected as a nature reserve for years, to preserve what we also wish to pass on to our guests: the pristine landscape, the intact flora and fauna, unforgettable nature experiences and the most beautiful places to observe, relax and enjoy.
Up at the peak, the distinctive transmitter rises up. The two highest altitude churches in Europe nestle onto the rocks and the modern Gipfelhaus crowns everything, which is not only a restaurant but also offers 40 beds and seminar rooms, a popular place to spend time. And further down, at Rosstratten and the Aichwaldhütte, there are the best chalet delicacies and ever friendly hosts. Of course open all year round!
