Raised Relief Map Model of Carinthia

The Schiller Park in the City of Villach is home to an impressive 3D landscape model of Carinthia.

When this topographical representation of Carinthia and its neighbouring areas was begun in 1891, nobody knew that this would – more than 100 years later - remain the largest to scale landscape model of its kind in Europe.
This raised relief map model was designed and built by teachers, students and the caretaker of the then Villach Technical School and financed entirely by donations. Since its restoration in 2006, the relief includes spectacular picture, light and sound effects and provides an exciting 3 D experience. Through film and light projectors, valleys, rivers and the road network are emphasized and 128 top excursion destinations of Carinthia shown. Added interest is provided by the informative short films which are shown every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. The Raised Relief Map Model is open to visitors from the beginning of May till the end of October from 10:00 to 16:30. Sundays and on holidays it is closed. With a Kärnten Card entry is free.
